Things To Expect At Student Raceday
Reece O'Connor Drink, Entertainment, Events April 2, 2017
The most eagerly anticipated date of the year is nearly here! Every year, spin 1038’s Student raceday which takes place on April 5th and brings unparalleled excitement, banter and races!
If you have never been to the races, these are some of the things you can expect:
1. There will be horses
But really, these are just a side show to… erm.. horsing around, races are not just for enthusiasts, they attract very varied crowd, which is why this is such a great event!

2. There will be plenty of drinking
Extra bars usually get installed for the day so you don’t have to worry about being thirsty. Hold off on having too many pre-drinks, you’ll face more hurdles than the jockeys at the course and be hung-over by the time you make it to the nightclub.
That counts for your mates too – don’t have your day ruined by being the designated minder.
3. Prepare for the rain
As it is Ireland it will most likely rain at some point of the day, so bring your umbrella and maybe a waterproof jacket to avoid our unpredictable weather from ruining your day.
4. Dress to Impress
The Races are a place that you can go all our and wear your Sunday best, expect suits, dresses and lots of hats & girls, avoid stiletto’s, your feet will be aching by the end of the day, and we all know stilettos aren’t great on grass or uneven terrain.
Block heels or wedges will serve you much better!
5. Don’t expect to win big
We all have that one friend who loves to gamble and is always telling you about how easy it is to always be up, bare in mind if it was so easy the gambling industry wouldn’t be one of the most profitable worldwide. Be wise with your money and don’t be putting stupid bets on just because your mates are, but if you do we wish you the best of luck.

6. The Night Out
Whether you plan to or not the chances are you will end up in town and if you be sensible because there will be plenty of people who have drank a little too much and will ruin your fun for the night. Try to get into town early to avoid queuing and most of all have a good time and if your not sure of where to go we highly reccomend Opium Rooms as its been notorious over the past couple of years as Dublin’s best raceday afterparty.

How To Get Pokémon GO in Ireland/ Europe
Reece O'Connor Games July 14, 2016
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Pokemon Go has launched in many regions across the world and it’s become something of a hit with Pokemon fans both young and old.
Essentially, Pokemon Go works by using your phone’s camera and geo-location services to put Pokemon in the real world. You open the app, it uses your camera to superimpose Pokemon in actual locations and you capture them in your Pokeball. You can them put your Pokemon through the gym and, eventually, battle them against other players – all done in the real world. It’s a strange game – and it’s little wonder the genre is known as ‘augmented reality’ – but it’s become a sensation. Nintendo’s stocks have already risen close to 8% since it launched and the staggered release pattern across the world has mean that fans here in Ireland have been clamouring to get their hands on it for quite a while.
So, let’s get to it. First things first – it should be pointed out that the official release is due in the next couple of weeks. The method we’ve found, seen below, isn’t the official way to download the game. In fact, you’re probably better off just waiting for the official download.
We’ve been in contact with Nintendo to see about an exact release date, but we know from reports that the launch in the UK and here in Ireland has been paused as servers for the game have been overloaded due to demand.
So, to the methods for iOS and Android. We should point that you’re doing this of your own volition and we’re not responsible if your phone is suddenly set on fire ala Charmander’s attack.
It’s always a good idea to back up your phone with anything important on a computer and, obviously, don’t try this unless you’re comfortable with the possibility of your phone being bricked. We’re also hearing reports that the Android version of the game might actually end up getting you banned from the official release and that the file is littered with remote access malware, so just be careful.
Right, that’s all the disclaimers out of the way:
iPhone:
1. Log out of your current Apple ID on your iPhone. The fastest way is to open the App Store, click the Featured tab, scroll right to the bottom, tap your Apple ID and hit ‘Sign out’.
2. Go to Settings > General > Language & Region and change the region to the US, Australia or New Zealand.
3. Download any free app and you’ll be prompted to create a new Apple ID. Do so, and select ‘None’ in the billing menu. Add any US/Australia/NZ-based address.
4. Try searching for Pokémon GO again and it should now be there and ready to install.
Android:
1. Download Pokémon Go from an APK download site such as APKPure.com, ideally directly on your phone but, failing that, on a PC (58.1MB file size).
2. If using a PC, attach your phone to the PC via USB and drag the downloaded file to your Downloads folder. On your phone go to Settings > Security and enable installation of apps from unknown sources. Now hit Pokémon Go in your Downloads folder to install the game.
That’s pretty much it for both. As we said, you’re probably better holding off for the official launch as there’s no guaranteeing that either method will actually work and there’s every possibility you could do permanent damage to your phone.
If you are lucky enough to get it working on an Irish phone, let us know how you get on. We’re hearing that Luas stops are doubling as Pokestops.

The Group – The Mates We All Have
Reece O'Connor Entertainment, Nightclubs June 5, 2015
1. The Nightclub Rep
That one friends who fills your news feed with crap and is always sending you invites to poxy events you don’t want to go to. You’ve never been to the event, yet you know every detail. Their snapchat stories? Constant crowd shots and 200 seconds long. Yet they can be useful. Need free in? You’re sorted.
2. The Session Moth
The friend who is always up for the “sesh” and will do anything, we mean anything for that late night delivery from the off license. You will usually see these folk posting statuses such as “any parties?” at 4am after the clubs have shut. They just dont stop, do they?
3. The Shit Talker
The friend that has advice on everything, but really knows sweet fuck all..
4. The Scrounge
The Friend that never has money for taxis and after you buy the first round at the bar, they disappear. The Scrounge is indeed a friend, but the degree of friendship usually depends on what they want from you. The Scrounge knows what they want and they usually get it. They say they’ll pay you back, but you both know better..
5. The One That Is Always Late
Every time the group meets, this friend shows up late. You have to tell this person that you’re meeting at 3pm even though it’s really 6pm, just so they’ll be there! And when they are there, you sometimes wonder if they’re even listening.. This person will either be checking their email, creeping on Facebook or texting the missus.
6. The Fitness Freak
The one that thinks they know about getting ‘large’ in the gym because they bought a tub of protein. They’ll invite you along for a quick workout before you head out that night and spend an hour on arms.

The Cadbury Snowflake
The Cadbury Snowflake was a bar manufactured by Cadbury in 1976. Crumbly flaked with the most unbelievable white chocolate it was a head turner.
Mars Delight
This absolute delight sent from the heavenly chocolate gods featured stunning milk chocolate together with a rippled wafer centre surrounded by caramel and chocolate flavour cream. Oh lord.
Milkybar Munchies
The adult version of the Milky Bar. Need I say more.
Twix Top
This lone soldier was a single rectangular biscuit bar introduced for a very short period of time in multi-
Taz
Everyone remembers this little number. Just enough to hit the spot, and sneakily shift into your pocket when your parents weren’t looking.
Cadbury Dream
Very similar to the milky bar but now absolutely nowhere to be seen.

The best thing about Rome is there are no limits to what you can see and do. This is the true coming together of old world meets new world. One minute you will be catching your breath from the beauty of the Colosseum and the next moment you are licking gelato and walking through world class shops. The best part is this city is for everyone. Families, honeymooners, and college students alike can all enjoy the ruins and museums. They are after all, one of a kind.

The City of Love is as romantic and corny as you could possibly get. That’s why Paris is such a great place to visit. Lovers come here at some point in their lives to experience the romance that practically oozes out of every museum, theater, and opera. The Louvre, Sacré Coeur, Eiffel Tower, and Notre Dame are just a few of the wonderful places you have to see. This city is so full of culture and elegance it is impossible to not fall in love with it.
London, England.
Cheers! You have arrived in London. That is the vibe you get the second your feet hit the pavement, and you won’t stop moving until your are exhausted. One of the most visited cities by college students in Europe, London is a wonderful place to visit. It is often considered the home away from home because of the similarities drawn to the USA. Many movies have taken place depicting this lovely city, but you really must come and see it for yourself. Bring a good pair of walking shoes because you will be running all over the city to see the amazing sights.
Moscow, Russia.
By many to be considered one of the greatest cities in the world, Moscow has more than earned that reputation. The city looks something like a fairytale with the huge, ornamented buildings and elaborate designs and colors. People who come here are overcome by the beauty of sights like St. Basil Cathedral and The Kremlin, with its large diamond collection. Don’t miss a chance to see Moscow and all of its beauty and charm.
Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
The Marvellous City, as it is known, Rio De Janeiro is for those who are spiritual in the mind or searching in the soul. Many Christians around the world consider this city just as important a place to visit in their lifetime as Mecca or Jerusalem. And that is truly marvellous. Athens is one of the oldest and best preserved cities in the world. The Greeks built this city to last through the ages. And have kept its beauty in tact for the past few thousand years. Some of the oldest and best kept secrets and mysteries are still lingering around these ancient ruins waiting for you to come and explore.
Beijing, China
Beijing is the capital of the largest populated country in the world. China has for many years been kept shut from the outside world and just recently opened its’ doors to us. All of the suspense and build up are now open and willing to have people come and explore. If you thought you have been to a big city, just wait until you step outside a cab here. There are so many things to see and do it can become a bit overwhelming, so why not come again? If you live your entire life without seeing Beijing you are missing out on one of the world’s most prized gems.
Sydney, Australia.
Just like Beijing, Sydney is a very different place than anything you have ever experienced before. The people and the culture here is a very welcoming kind that will make you feel at home the second you get here. A trip to the down under would simply not be complete without a stay in Sydney. Many college students who study abroad in Australia or Asia flock to Sydney for its’ easy going, laid back nature.
Bangkok, Thailand.
From the outside this city looks just like any other large, industrial urban metropolis. But go beyond the shell and you will begin to see the Thai culture coming through. One trip to the Grand Palace and you will begin to understand what is so special about this often overlooked city. Bangkok takes great pride in its’ royal family and royal grounds. The palace is completely indescribable unless you have seen it first hand and even then you can’t believe it.
Best Games To Download From The App Store
Reece O'Connor Entertainment May 10, 2015
Here are some of the best games to download from the app store for when you’re on a bus or train, when you’re bored in a lecture of if you don’t feel like studying.
Crossy Road:
Crossy Road is an endless Frogger-like game from Hipster Whale. The game is so simple but so enjoyable and playing with your friends can lead to serious competitiveness. You will constantly want to improve your high score and will want to unlock new characters such as a kangaroo, platypus and even a koala. It is a fun game for when you’re bored and simply just do not want to do anything.

Stick Hero:
Stretch the stick in order to reach and walk on the platforms. If the stick is not long enough or is too long, you will fall down. The game can get annoying sometimes but that adds to the overall fun and challenge of the game. Recently a new mode has been added where you have to slash watermelons and this is also great fun so it is like 2 games in 1! I highly recommend downloading this game if you enjoy playing games in your spare time.
Candy Crush:
A classic in the mobile games community at this stage as nearly everybody has heard of candy crush by now. Once people start playing this game they become addicted as we all know from those annoying Facebook notifications. Although candy crush is a good game when you have nothing else to be doing. If you’ve not played it why not give it a try and if you have I assume you’re already addicted so have fun trying to beat your current level!

Snake:
I’m not sure if this is available on Android but is available on iPhone. Snake is the classic Nokia game reinvented for iPhone and it plays just like the old game. For anyone feeling nostalgic or just wants to play a casual game of their old favourite game Snake then I recommend downloading it and reliving all those childhood memories.
8 Ball Pool:
A great pool game to play with your friends or just to play against strangers if you enjoy pool but don’t have access to a pool table. It is the best pool game out there and is known by everyone really. It’s a great, competitive game to play in your spare time and will make you to want to play constantly.
